WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT Go behind the scenes in the making of a fashion show. Learn how to put on a real fashion show - select the designs, the models, music, the "looks", and all that goes in to producing a fashion show. They'll visit a local resale shop and purchase garments that they can take apart and re-design into fresh, new original looks of their own, and then showcase them on a runway show on the Third Street Promenade. Students will learn how to "style" looks, accessorize, establish a theme for the show, and draw inspiration from studying fashion shows from NY, Milan, and Paris fashion weeks. Tips on styling, makeup application, and what it takes to create a designer's collection from concept to runway.
WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT Learn about the history of fashion with an emphasis on Hollywood and the world of fashion and entertainment. How do you tell a story and develop a character through the design of a costume? Students will be given a "treatment" to work with and develop a collection of designs for a specific character, celebrity, or event. Through inspiration boards, sketching, and fabric selection, students will create a portfolio of their costume designs. A field trip to a Hollywood Studio wardrobe department where students go behind the scenes and explore the world of costume design. Students will also learn special effects makeup tricks from industry experts.
